LUK, Inc. Honors Late Foster Parent and Promotes Youth Success with Memorial Scholarship
Fitchburg — LUK, Inc. recently awarded a local foster youth with the Karen Bean Resilience
Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created to honor the life and lasting impact of Karen Bean, a longtime LUK foster parent known for her unwavering dedication to supporting foster youth and the local community.
LUK honored a local high school senior, JC (full name censored for privacy), with the award.
The funds will support JC’s “launch” into pursuing his goals and aspirations, beginning with working and pursuing a trade career.
“She was a natural teacher and mentor”
LUK’s Community Placement team and Karen Bean’s family joined together in June to
commemorate Karen’s legacy as a foster parent and celebrate JC’s achievements.
“Karen always had a passion for instilling life skills, tools, and knowledge in youth,” says
Karen’s husband, Jeff Bean. “She was a natural teacher and mentor, and impacted over 1000
youth during her time as a foster parent.”
The award reflects Karen’s lifetime of compassion, strength, and the belief in the potential of
every young person, especially those who have faced adversity and found the courage to dream.
Recipients of the award are chosen based on their qualities that reflect her spirit and values,
including resilience, integrity, hope, and service.
LUK is thankful for the opportunity to honor Karen Bean through continuing her dedication to supporting foster youth in our community.
