Celebrating Earth Day

First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Check out various Earth Day events happening in Central Massachusetts and beyond!

1. Trees Are Treasures Earth Day Celebration

Saturday, April 20 | 11 AM-3 PM | Wells State Park (159 Walker Pond Rd., Sturbridge) 

Join Grassroots Central Mass (GCM) for its fourth annual “Trees Are Treasures” event! Take a stroll on the Mill Pond Trail and enjoy children’s stories, songs, crafts, and games at this family-friendly event. 

2. Townsend Earth Day

Saturday, April 20 | 10 AM-3 PM | North Middlesex Regional High School Parking Lot (19 Main Street, Townsend)

Get ready for a day filled with eco-friendly fun and educational activities! Over 100 vendors and crafters will be present. Various performances include Belly Dancers at 11:30 AM, Magic by Jay at 12:00 PM, Rock N’ Roll Gymnastics at 12:30 PM, and Animal Adventures at 1:00 PM. 

3. Fitchburg Celebrates Earth Day 2024

Sunday, April 21 | 12-3 PM | Riverfront Park (51 Commercial Street, Fitchburg)

Celebrate Earth Day in Fitchburg with live music, food, plant and clothing swaps, art, fitness, activities, and local vendors. Learn how to adopt environmentally sustainable habits and take meaningful action for a healthier Earth.

4. YouthGROW Farm Earth Day Cleanup

Saturday, April 20 | 9 AM-12 PM | YouthGROW Farm (63 Oread Street, Worcester)

Be ready to get dirty by helping clean up Worcester and the YouthGROW Farm for Earth Day. Volunteers will help clean up in and around the farm and are treated to a cookout after starting at noon. Volunteers can be any age/experience level, children must be accompanied by an adult. 

5. 34th Annual REC Earth Day Cleanup

Saturday, April 20 | 8 AM-12 PM | Worcester

Come together with other volunteers across Worcester to make the city a healthy, clean, and beautiful place to live, work, and play. Cleanups will followed by a community cookout from 12-2 PM at 42 Lagrange Street, Rear, Worcester. 

6. EcoTarium’s Earth Day Celebration

Monday, April 22 | 10 AM-5 PM | EcoTarium (222 Harrington Way, Worcester)

Celebrate Earth Day at the EcoTarium! Enjoy the EcoTarium’s grounds, animals, trails, and playground. Participate in art projects, scavenger hunts, and more. 

7. Botanic Garden

New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill (11 French Drive, Boylston) is a living museum dedicated to creating experiences with plants that inspire people and improve the world. Enjoy the nature at Botanic Garden on Earth Day. 

8. Village Earth Days

Friday, April 19-Sunday, April 21 | 9:30 AM-5:00 PM | Old Sturbridge Village (1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge)

Seed, sow, and celebrate! Join Old Sturbridge Village for their family-friendly event featuring discussions on the changing climate, the history of New England’s environment, sustainability, and other fun activities.

9. Lunenburg Earth Day Celebration

Sunday, April 21 | 11 AM-3 PM | In the Meadow Farm (40 Page Street, Lunenburg)

Celebrate spring at In the Meadow Alpaca Farm with an alpaca photo booth, local artisans, and activities for all. 

10. Party for the Planet

Sunday, April 21 | 10 AM-3 PM | Franklin Park Zoo (1 Franklin Park Road, Boston) 

Join Franklin Zoo for its Earth Day celebration! Learn more about the importance of conservation and how you can help protect our planet with zookeeper chats, games and activities, education stations, and more.
