DESCRIPTION:  \nLUK\, Inc. is proud to be hosting our 27th Annual Youth Empowerment Summit this spring at the Boys and Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster (April 16th\, 2026). As part of this annual event\, we will recognize one North Central Massachusetts high school senior for their demonstrated leadership\, community service\, commitment to equity or creating inclusive environments for other youth. Nominated youth should be true role models for others\, who embody inclusivity and equity in what they do. Select youth will be recognized\, and will receive their award of $250\, at the Summit during the Award Celebration. Start at the Upper Common gazebo to check in and take part in the Walk for Peace at 10:00 AM. Then\, youth in grades 5-8 can learn\, or practice\, their basketball skills at our Basketball Clinic while the rest of the family enjoys activities and prizes at the Community Resource Fair. No matter your age or interests\, there’s something to enjoy at this year’s Common Ground Community event! Due to limited space\, preregistration is suggested\, but day-of registrations are welcome if there are still spots available. Preregister by 8/22/25 at noon. All  youth MUST have a completed and signed permission slip to participate. Preregister\, learn more\, and get the Common Ground Basketball Clinic Permission Slip here. \n\n\nWalk for Peace: Begins at 10:00 AM at the Fitchburg Upper Common gazebo. Join LUK Youth Development and LUK’s Advocacy Advisory Board to support peace\, healthy habits\, and violence prevention in our community. Participants are encouraged to wear white  and bring a sign promoting peace! Limited T-Shirts will also be available \n\nBasketball Clinic: Begins at 10:30 at the JoAnne “Mama” Fitz Memorial Playground (55 North Street). Youth grades 5-8 are welcome to join our FIRST EVER Basketball Clinic! For the past 25 years\, Common Ground has focused on a basketball tournament\, and this year\, we want to get more youth involved and learning the game! ALL are welcome to learn how to play or to brush up on their skills\, no matter how much experience they have. DESCRIPTION:Apply to be a Youth Leader today! \nExperience youth-led Conflict Resolution\, Peer Mediation\, & Community Leadership \nLUK Youth Development’s Youth Leaders take part in a peer mediation program designed to address student conflicts as they arise\, preventing harmful conflict escalation. By getting students involved\, youth are encouraged and empowered to lead\, educate their peers\, and directly promote violence prevention. Activities include: \n\nLearning about conflict resolution strategies and how to implement them\nParticipating in local advocacy\, like events promoting peace and meetings with legislators\nWork with students at after-school clubs\, programs\, and activities\nEducate peers about bullying and violence prevention\n\nYouth must be at least 15 years old to participate. Youth work a maximum of 4 hours per week and are paid for their time. You can make an impact and help reduce violence in your community! \nApply by Friday\, June 6th on LUK’s Youth Leader Application form.
