Statement on Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict
In the wake of the Kenosha verdict, LUK would like to reach out to our staff and neighbors who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and say we see you and we hear you. Please know you do not have to spend more of your energy convincing us of the injustice that exists in our society. We recognize the imbalance and it is our responsibility to notice these inequities and understand the human toll. At LUK, we work to help others and the community feel safe, healthy, and resilient. As helpers, we empathize with the pain that people live with every day. We must do our own research, learn, and unlearn to understand the history of injustices in our community. We must acknowledge our mistakes and commit to doing better. We must speak up and share in the emotional burden caused by inequity. LUK continues to believe that striving for social equity is an essential value of the organization. We have been living our values for over 50 years and will never give up. We ask our community to have compassion towards Black, Indigenous, and People of Color during this challenging time in our history. Consider suspending what you believe you know about this one case and start listening. Do not listen just to speak, rather listen to learn.
