LUK Receives $86,974 Grant from HealthAlliance Hospital’s Doyle Community Fund to Help Combat Opioid Crisis
FITCHBURG – LUK, Inc., a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to supporting individuals and families, including those facing substance use disorders, has received a generous $86,974 grant from HealthAlliance Hospital’s Doyle Community Fund to expand services that address the continuum of prevention, treatment, and recovery from opioid addiction.
LUK emphasizes the importance of using a family systems approach in response to the opioid crisis. The project will focus on supporting adolescents and young adults who have a substance use problem and parents/caregivers whose substance use problem is impacting their parenting capacity. LUK will work collaboratively with HealthAlliance to identify community needs and collectively will implement strategies to shatter the stigma of addiction.
Services will be provided in the family’s home or community and are designed to be family-focused; the type, intensity and focus of the service can be easily adjusted according to the needs of the family. Family Navigation Teams will provide short term intensive support to families as they cope with the family member struggling with addiction. Staff may provide a range of support from assisting families in understanding and managing the impact of addiction on the entire family system, helping a family identify concrete resources and community-based natural supports to in-the-moment crisis counseling and recovery coaching
