Decisions about services and supports for people with disabilities are made based on funding\, geography\, and availability. Service providers are bound by regulations\, budgets\, and geographic boundaries. We hear of the phrase “person centered” but it is misunderstood and misused. We cannot change the systems overnight\, but we can shift our perspective\, language and actions so that conversations and decisions are about dignity\, joy\, and opportunity in life for the people that we love. In this workshop\, we will discuss how we can be person-centered in a system-centered world.” \nThe LUK Families Connected Family Resource Center is a supportive\, multicultural resource for North Central MA families. We are here to provide a welcoming\, supportive environment for local individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities\, including Autism Spectrum Disorder\, as well as their families and caretakers. When you apply\, you can choose your first and second choice of weeks. \nWHERE: Application forms can be found on the LUK Consumer Forms page and should be sent to TREK@luk.org. Most youth launch from our Boylston Site\, or are picked up at one of our Fitchburg offices (get the LUK location addresses here). We are able to do some limited transportation for clients if needed. \nIf you have any questions about the program\, a youth’s eligibility\, transportation options\, what support youth get during this adaptive adventure-based program\, and more\, contact us at TREK@luk.org or call 800-579-000 and ask to speak to TREK. We are here to help you figure out if this is a good option for a youth in your life.
