Hourly Respite

LUK’s Hourly Respite Program
Respite is a service in which temporary care is provided to a child with emotional and/or behavioral disturbances and can prevent incidences of abuse and neglect.   LUK, Inc. provides families with quality, hourly respite services that are responsive to the needs of families; are reliable and flexible; and strengthen families, children and youth.  Research has shown that Hourly respite care is an essential part of the overall support that families may need to keep their child at home and to avoid long-term placement.

Service Types
LUK provides three types of Hourly Respite Services:  1) Home-based Respite offers a trained respite worker who comes to the family’s home on a specified day and time and provides the services in the family’s home.  2) Community-based Respite offers a trained respite worker who comes to the family’s home on a specified day and time and takes the child/youth and his/her siblings into the local community to do an activity.  3) Center-based Respite offers a safe and secure site where the family has the option of dropping off or having their child/youth and his/her siblings picked-up on a specified day and time to do an activity at the Hourly Respite Program facility.

Program Goals
The Hourly Respite Program assists families, children and youth:
  • To reduce family stress;
  • To establish, support and maintain family stability;
  • To increase family and individual safety; and,
  • To minimize the need for out-of-home placement.
